Template messages require pre-approval
Any message sent to start a conversation, rather than reply to one, has to use a template approved by Meta in advance, which takes time and can be rejected for wording that reads as promotional.

API INTEGRATION · WHATSAPP BUSINESS API
The WhatsApp Business API, called the Cloud API when accessed through Meta directly, or delivered through a messaging provider, lets a business send and receive WhatsApp messages programmatically rather than through the consumer app. It is not the same product as the free WhatsApp Business app most small businesses already use.
The two hardest constraints are the ones most integrations get wrong first: message templates have to be pre-approved before they can be sent outside an active conversation, and free-form replies only work inside a 24-hour window after the customer last messaged.
WHAT ACTUALLY BREAKS
Not marketing copy. What actually goes wrong when this integration is built without knowing it up front.
Any message sent to start a conversation, rather than reply to one, has to use a template approved by Meta in advance, which takes time and can be rejected for wording that reads as promotional.
Once a customer's last message is more than 24 hours old, only pre-approved templates can be sent, not open text, which breaks a support flow built assuming always-open messaging.
Business-initiated messaging requires demonstrable customer opt-in, and a business that cannot show it risks the number being restricted.
A business number's message-sending limit increases gradually based on a quality rating tracking block and complaint rates, not a fixed volume set at signup.
Buttons, lists and product catalogues each follow their own payload structure, and a malformed one is silently rejected rather than delivered incorrectly.
WHAT WE BUILD
Built to handle the failure modes above by default, not discovered after launch.
PROOF
Not a one-off integration. Used across smart bot and messaging builds here.
Part of the standard messaging stack, used across WhatsApp and Telegram smart bot builds and omnichannel messaging work.
WHAT IT COSTS
A well-documented API with clean data is a different job from one with none of that.
The honest price depends on how well-documented the API is and how much existing data has to be reconciled during setup. Third-party service costs are billed at cost, never marked up.
STRAIGHT ANSWERS
The ones that come up before anyone signs anything.
No. The app is a manual, single-device tool for small businesses. The Business API is programmatic, built for automated or high-volume messaging integrated into another system.
Because the 24-hour session window has closed, and only a pre-approved template can be sent at that point, not open text. This is a platform rule, not a bug.
It varies and is not fully predictable, which is why templates are prepared and submitted early rather than assumed to be ready by launch day.
Yes, for WhatsApp-based bots specifically. It is scoped as part of that build rather than priced as a separate add-on.
